SRV Update 25th May 2015

Dear Members Our season is now at a close with the last event being the Tasman Challenge on the weekend just gone. I was not there but by all reports it was a great weekend capped off by our team winning. Thanks to everyone that assisted especially all the boat owners who came along for the weekend. I am sure our team captains in Maddie and Cuffy will have a bit to say at presentation night. TSV were at Charm on the weekend and did a report on how our races are conducted which will see us having further discussion with them in coming weeks. It is nothing to be alarmed at just changes required in what we all do to satisfy ever changing requirements no difference to what is happening for River Races. All of us from racers to officials need to change what we do for the betterment of our sport. Good news is that we have made some progress with our insurance company and we have received $11,000 back for misuse of credit card etc. It is a start; we are still in discussion with our bank on other funds and hope to have final before our AGM in July. Presentation night is getting close on the 11th July at the RACV club in the city, get your numbers together and book your tickets now. It is with great disappointment to read the comments from a number of members on our social media page regarding the cost of our annual presentation night. As with all events conducted by Ski Racing Victoria a considerable amount of time, effort, and research has been undertaken with this event and not mention the sacrifice of personal/business time by the committee in particular one member trying to give you all a fantastic night. As a committee we welcome any assistance and recommendations regarding this event and would prefer that members put their efforts into assisting with the running of this event rather than the negative comments placed on the social media page! If you feel strongly give myself or one of the committee a call. Next season is fast approaching and I seek your comments on the point score series and what we can do better. Whether it be the amount of races, length of races etc, For next season we want to put together a sub-committee to run our point scores, another smaller one for the Grand Prix’s. Do you have suggestions for our Robinvale and Wentworth events? Do you have any suggestions for Safety in our sport, SRA have just formed a Safety Committee and I am sure our representatives in Tony Rowe and Terry Welch would like some feedback. SRA are getting close to releasing a new rule book with changes in the way our sport is run at events, • Like allowing for timing off the boat and not skier as happened at Mildura this year. • Racesafe being used for timing which will all be a bonus for the Barry Beehag shortening turnaround times. • A Race Director to control events with the assistance of a Safety Officer and a Chief Judge. • Clarification on some of the rules. When it is released you will all need to spend some time and read thoroughly. We do have 4 positions becoming vacant on the SRV board at our AGM in late July, I understand a couple of the board will not renominate so we will be looking for candidates to fill the vacancies. If you love your sport like I do and want to commit to ensure SRV has a strong board put your hand up. As yet we have not filled the Administration position, if you are interested the details are on our web site. Any questions please give myself or Graham Lee a call. If any questions or suggestions on anything above please give me or one of your committee a call or email us on admin@waterskiracing.com I hope to see you all at our presentation night, Steve Shipp Chairman Ski Racing Victoria 0418560484
