December 2016 Newsletter

WELCOME ALL                                                 December 2016 The 2016 – 17 season is nearing the half way point with a very full second half of the season due to the unfortunate cancellation or postponement of some races because of flooding. Check out the SRV website under the documents tab for the updated calendar  http://www.waterskiracing.com   CHAIRMAN MESSAGE Dear Members, For those of you who attended the Vic Titles on the weekend, what a great weekend of racing it.  With near perfect racing conditions on Saturday and then perfect World's training water on Sunday and with nearly 400 entries for the weekend it was a huge success. The Tasman Challenge Auction Saturday night was a success with over 13k raised for a great cause.  Thanks as always to Dave Bishop for giving up his time and conducting the Auction. Robinvale 2017 preparations are well under way, 2017 Major Sponsors will be confirmed in the next few weeks and SRV Robinvale Sub Committee will meet with The Robinvale Committee in Swan Hill prior to Xmas to discuss some of the finer details of next year's event.  We look forward to putting on another great race for our members. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of myself and all of the SRV Board to wish our members a safe and happy Xmas and we look forward to seeing you all back on the water in 2017. Kris Pogorelec   POINT SCORE SERIES It takes a lot of helpers to make sure events run for everyone’s enjoyment so please come up early and put your name on the roster.  Thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time this season helping when needed. Breath testing is compulsory for ALL competitors and officials and everyone should make themselves aware of breath testing times – NO late breath testing will be conducted.  If you do not attend breath testing you will not race. All skiers must present their helmets for inspection when they come up for breath testing and helmets must have your name clearly marked.   RACE NUMBERS Please ensure you check with Lou Mudgway on 0414 967 290 about your SRV race number before, don't assume that you still have the same race number from the past.     GATE 2 SCRUTINEERING Gate 2 scrutineering has now been triggered. If a boat has competed in any SRA sanctioned event prior to 6th November it must be re-scrutineered before competing in any further SRA sanctioned events.  Boats intending to compete after 19th November need to ensure the boat has been re-scrutineered and update SRA.  This scrutineering does not require a change in steering cable.   TRANS TASMAN CHALLENGE UPDATE Our Trans Tasman annual Auction held on Saturday proved to be a very enjoyable evening raising over $13,000.00. Thank you to all who donated items and made purchases. The Trans Tasman team will be selected at the next point score in January 2017. Team selection presentation will be held after points for all nominees have been calculated and the team announced thereafter. SRV will endeavour to run a Legends Race at the final point score: Entry forms for this race will be available at point score 4. So get your legend and boat crew lined up for what is always a fun way to conclude the series. Good luck to all in the forth coming races. Lou Mudgway   LOGISTICS AND EQUIPMENT PORTFOLIO UPDATE After point score 2 our three boats and trailer got a routine check by Tony Wilson with a few minor repairs to lights and wiring, but over all they are in good working order.  We have now secured enough weights for the course, thanks to George D for sourcing these. We have purchased a new start grid and new lights for our buoys. Over the Christmas break Moose and I will be doing a stock take and list all of our equipment so we can endeavour to maintain all of our gear. Wes Davison   ROOKIE DRIVERS PORTFOLIO UPDATE It was great to see the season kick off with 11 rookie drivers and a couple more have been added since. Keep racing to the conditions and err on the side of caution. Don't forget your 25mm red tape under your race numbers. Safe racing everyone. Jenny Grech   GOVERNANCE PORTFOLIO UPDATE As a result of matters raised by our Auditor in regards to our current constitution I am now working with our legal people to bring our constitution up to date and compliant with the relevant legislation.
