Ken Merrett Update

HE IS BACK IN MELBOURNE!!! Ken has now been moved from Royal Adelaide Hospital to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. He is happy to be back and enjoying being able to have family visit him. He has begun the long hard road to recovery which means working with the Physio’s and is back eating in small amounts. He asks that you respect his wishes to not have any visitors before Thursday 24th July as there are a few close people he would like to see first but is thankful for all the well wishes that he has received.

Information Evening

The Board of Ski Racing Victoria welcomes members to attend an information evening at 7pm on Wednesday 6th August at Skyways International Hotel Tullamarine. Skyways Hotel 113 Matthews Ave Airport West, Vic, 3042 The evening is open strictly to members and membership identification will be required. This evening is following on from the notice to members on Sunday July 6th, regarding financial discrepancies in the books of Ski racing Victoria. Scrutineering and First Aid Day

With season 2014/15 fast approaching Ski Racing Victoria will be holding it’s annual Scrutineering and First Aid Day on August 3rd, 2014 at our Port Melbourne Office. Address: Pier 35, 263-329 Lorimer St Port Melbourne There will be CPR and First Aid training available with a trainer who specialises in speed trauma. This will be a 2 hour and 30 minute course starting at 9:30am and finishing at 12:00pm. The cost for this will be $50 and will be payable on the day. To register please email to book your place. Grand Prix Series

It is not to far now until the new season gets underway and with this season being a World Championship year the Board of Ski Racing Victoria have decided that we will run a 2 day Grand Prix Event on the weekend of August 16 & 17 with the view to giving all competitors a chance to have a hit out before the first round of the Australian Selection Race Series. The Passing of Rick Love

It is with sadness that the Board of Ski Racing Victoria (SRV) acknowledges the recent passing of long time SRV competitor, SRV Board Member, and the Chair of Ski Racing Australia, Mr Rick Love. Our thoughts are with Rick’s beloved daughter Penelope and wife Teresa, his parents and sister, the Love family and all of Rick’s friends. Services for Rick Love will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, 8 July 2014 at St Anne’s Catholic Church (95 Riddell Road, Sunbury Victoria).

Ski Racing Victoria Assistance

As many of you are well aware an incident occurred at the South Australian Titles over the June long weekend in which one member of Ski Racing Victoria lost his life and another was badly injured. Rod Sheehan is mourned by his wife Eva Sheehan and three children Cam, Jess and Mal, along with the extended Sheehan family. Ken Merrett was badly injured and remains in Royal Adelaide Hospital with his sons Kane and Hayden. Ken is a board member of Ski Racing Victoria and has been involved in the sport for many years. Ski Racing Victoria Statement

An incident during the South Australian Titles at Murray Bridge has resulted in the death of one of our competitors Rodney Sheehan and injury to SRV Board member Ken Merrett. Ken was driving and Rodney observing in the boat Pure Gold when the boat left the course and hit the river bank.  Both were treated immediately on site, but Rodney succumbed to his injuries in the Murray Bridge hospital. Ken was airlifted to Royal Adelaide hospital for further ongoing treatment and remains their Intensive Care Unit. Ted Hurley Memorial Classic

Ski Racing Victoria and the Mildura Ski Club are excited to announce the latest addition to the River Racing Calendar. This event is a joint venture between Ski Racing Victoria and the Mildura Ski Club. With support from the Hurley family the event will be known as the “Ted Hurley Memorial Classic” that will originate in Wentworth and race up to Mildura and return.
