Latest Newsletter – 1st April 2016

Dear Members Robinvale was a great race again this year and luck was on our side with the recent Blue Green Algae outbreak not reaching the area. The same cannot be said for our Grand Prix event scheduled for the 16th and 17th April at Mulwala. We have postponed the event to a date to be decided by the SRV board when they meet on April 6th. We are looking for a date in mid or late May but will be dependent on more info being obtained on the algae outbreak. I would like to thank all of those who gave their time Robinvaleto make it another fantastic event. From all the timing crew, judges, officials, course and official boats, sweep crew, corporate area helpers, sandwich makers, the list is very long. To the SRV committee who put in an enormous amount of work, Robinvale committee and all of our sponsors that made it happen. I wish to advise that Sue Maher has decided to resign her roles at SRV so she can spend more time with her family next season. Sue has been our race day secretary for a few years now and has worked to have good systems in place and train others to run computers etc, it is a job she has done extremely well and this year she also took over as our Admin Officer a role she has also refined and got into shape. Sue will be missed and the board of SRV thank her for all her efforts. SRV is now looking for someone to take on both roles or if not we may consider splitting. The race Day Secretary roll involves everything from entries to finalizing results for our PS Series , grand Prix’s and Robinvale. Admin is also an involved role attending board meetings, minutes, a lot of follow up and planning. If anyone is interested please make contact with myself or one of the board for more details. Start time would be almost immediate and is a paid position. Our Trans Tasman team of Junior skiers and officials have headed to New Zealand this week to do us proud hopefully winning the TT Cup again. It is a very rewarding experience for Skiers and I encourage all of you to strive to be part of next years team to compete here in Victoria. Save the Date “Saturday 25th June for presentation night”, RACV club in Melbourne. Details will follow in the next few weeks. Last year’s event at this venue was spot on, with good food, service, some dancing and everyone dressed up, get in early and book your accommodation now. The meal and drink cost for the night are charged to members at what it cost SRV, with SRV picking up the room hire, security, DJ Music, PA system and screen, sponsor tickets, limited complimentary tickets and trophies. This year we will also be subsidising some children’s tickets. Can everyone who received a perpetual trophy last year please return to Lou Mudgway 0414 967 290 Our major raffle will be drawn on the night for a $12,000 Sapphire Spa package, so buy your tickets now, those who have tickets to sell please get completed books back to an SRV board member along with the money when sold, don’t leave to the last minute. We need to raise funds to keep SRV as the biggest and best ski racing club. As our Point Score series has concluded the board of SRV will be reviewing over the next 4 to 6 weeks so we can present to you all any changes well in advance of next year’s series. We are also reviewing the Grand Prix events as next year will be a selection year for the Australian team. If you have any ideas please pass them on to one of the board. SRV are looking at having a sub-committee to run point score and grand prix events, more information to follow. There will be having elections for SRV board members later this year in July, if you are interested please give myself or one of the board a call. The board generally meets each month on the first Wednesday of the month. SRA Board and its safety committee have been reviewing various aspects of our sport with some important rule changes of late. Please take the time to think about the reasoning behind the changes. We need to make changes for safety and review the direction our sport is headed so it can progress in the future.
